This guide explains how to generate and upload your world, among other quirks related to generating a world. You are expected to understand how to configure your server prior to following this guide.
Reasons to generate the world in your computer
- Select options that are not present (like choosing Crimson or Corruption biomes, or
seedfield not being present in tModLoader/tShock servers) - World gen crashes due to heavy memory/CPU usage (tModLoader servers are suggested to be made this way)
Note
For tModLoader setups, you should not enable client side mods while generating the world. This is also stated in the setup guide for this server
Upload a Terraria world
If you generated the world in your own computer and wish to export it, or you already had an existing world, this section explains how to proceed. Terraria worlds are very small, so it is likely that you can simply drag and drop the world without any trouble.Steps to upload your terraria world
- Spot where the world is stored. In Windows, it should be found in the Documents folder, inside a folder called "My Games", then go inside "Terraria".
- If your world was made in Vanilla Terraria, look for the
Worldsfolder and it will be there. You are looking for a single file with this format: [World_Name_You_Added].wld (suitable for tShock servers) - If it was made in tModLoader, instead look for a
tModLoaderfolder, inside look for theWorldsfolder. You are looking for two files with this format: [World_Name_You_Added].wld and [World_Name_You_Added].twld - If you are on a Linux distro or MacOS, please look for your specific system, as it might be different for each OS
- If Vanilla Terraria or Modded Terraria (tModLoader), go to
savesfolder, then toWorldsfolder. If there are previous world files, delete them, and simply drag & drop the world file(s) - If Vanilla Modded (tShock), world files are always on first sight. If there are previous world files, delete them (including ones ending in .bak) then drag & drop the world file directly to the server (not inside other folders!)
Danger
Be careful with world names! The world file name and the
world name option on the Startup window must be exactly the same for the server to find it. If your name had spaces, add underscores in their place \ or simply remove all spaces and shorten the name. If you are on tModLoader, the two files must have matching names.
