Create Backups with Google Drive

By default, you won't be able to back up your free Minecraft server because FPS.ms backups are only available to Pro users. In this tutorial, we will use the plugin - DriveBackupV2, which is an excellent free alternative.

Installing DBV2 (DriveBackupV2)

Before we start make sure to stop your server before doing any changes to avoid data loss or world corruption.

  1. Go to the DriveBackupV2 download page and download the latest version.
  2. Once it has finished downloading, go to your server panel and upload it using our plugin upload guide found here

Once it has uploaded to your server, you will need to start your server once for it to install and generate it's configuration files.

Authentication with Google Drive

  1. Start your Minecraft server.
  2. Once it has started, type drivebackup link googledrive into the console.
  3. After you've entered that command, you will receive a link and a code.
  4. Copy the code and visit the link provided.
  5. When you are on the website, it will prompt you to enter a code. Enter the code you copied earlier.
  6. After entering the code, click the Next button.
  7. Upon clicking the Next button, you will be asked to select a Google account.
  8. Choose your Google account, and it will authenticate. You can now enjoy backups!

NOTE

  • DrivebackupV2 only functions on Bukkit forks like Paper, Spigot, Pufferfish, and Bukkit itself.
  • While we demonstrated Google Drive authentication in this tutorial, you can also authenticate with OneDrive and Dropbox using the same procedure.
